Embracing the Unexpected: New Color Lineups and the Magic of "Mystery Flavor" Prints

Welcome to the new Thinker’s Alchemy online storefront! As we continue to grow and expand our micro-manufacturing capabilities, we are thrilled to give you more ways to customize your favorite 3D-printed items.

One of the best parts about 3D printing is the sheer variety of colors at our fingertips. But sometimes, too many choices can be overwhelming. To keep things simple, fun, and highly customizable, we’ve completely revamped how you choose the colors for your gear.

Whether you want to keep it classic or leave it up to fate, every printable item in our shop now falls into one of three color categories:

The Fixed Classics

Sometimes you just want the tried-and-true. When you select the Fixed option, you can choose from our signature Thinker's Alchemy company colors or the classic default colors specific to that item's original design.

The Seasonal Drops

We love matching the vibe of the season! This option features curated, limited-edition color combinations that rotate throughout the year. Keep an eye out for these, because once a season passes, those specific color palettes might not come back around until next year.

The Roll of the Dice (Random Colors)

Feeling lucky? If you don’t have a specific color in mind, select the Random option and let us pick for you! It’s a great way to get a unique piece and add a little surprise to your unboxing.

But here is where things get really interesting... choosing "Random" gives you a rare chance to score something we call a Mystery Flavor Print.

What is a Mystery Flavor Print?

If you’ve ever stopped by our booth at community events like Summerween, you know we love handing out DumDums lollipops. (Disclaimer: We are not affiliated with DumDums; we just really love handing out simple, individually wrapped sweet treats!)

My absolute favorite thing about DumDums is the lore behind their famous "Mystery Flavor." When the factory is making the candy, and it's time to switch the production line from one flavor to another, they don't stop the machines. The flavors end up splicing together on the line. Instead of throwing that mixed batch away, they wrap it up and label it "Mystery Flavor." You never know exactly what combination you’re going to get.

In our 3D printing lab, we occasionally run into a similar situation. Sometimes, right in the middle of a print, a spool of filament will run out. In low-stock situations, instead of halting production or scrapping a perfectly good print, we have to hot-swap a brand-new color into the extruder to finish the job.

What started as a frantic production workaround actually created something awesome: a single, seamless item featuring a stark, unique color split.

Instead of treating these as production errors, we realized they are actually some of the coolest, most unique items we make. They are genuine, one-of-a-kind artifacts of the 3D printing process.

How to Get One

Because these color swaps only happen naturally during the printing process when a spool runs dry, Mystery Flavor Prints cannot be requested directly.

They are a rare variant. The only way to get your hands on a Mystery Flavor Print is to select the Random Color option when placing your order. If the stars align and your item happens to be on the build plate when a spool runs out, you’ll be the lucky recipient of a unique, spliced-color print.
